Shop News April 2017

It’s hard to imagine that we are in April already and yet we don’t seem to have had any winter weather. All our tutors are always a little dubious of Classes or workshops in the winter months because of driving conditions for their pupils. How lucky have we all been here in East Anglia, and long may it continue!

We hope you like the workshops we have arranged for you. Please call to book your place in a class or workshop first before sending off your payment (although obviously you can do both over the phone once your placement has been confirmed).

In our last news letter we reported that the shop and our church and surrounding area were collecting good quality clothes, shoes and blankets for Syria. You really didn’t let us down with your support (as if we thought you would!). Initially we thought we would hire a Transit van to transport the boxes to Nuneaton which is the collection point for us. The number of boxes grew so much that our thoughts were then on hiring a somewhat larger Luton van. To cut a long story short we ended up hiring a 7.5 ton lorry to carry 430 boxes and bags of duvets to their destination. Thank you all so very very much for your wonderful, generous support. And guess what, we are going to do it all over again with our collection cut off date being Saturday June the 10th, so if you have any good quality clean items that are now “spare” to your wardrobe we’d love to have them. Last time we were asked for winter clothes, now they are asking us for summer clothes as well, as they now have storage areas close to the borders of this horrendously war torn country.

We have had news from the orphanage in Thailand that sadly terrorism is still playing a large part of daily life in Betong in Yala province too. They have also experienced floods earlier in the year but now sandstorms and extremes in heat making life tough for the children to study. We have recently sent funds to them and will be sending further funding after our quilt show in July. We really do think this promises to be the biggest and best show we have ever produced so please give us your support by popping along and buying a raffle ticket or two. As you know every single penny made, with no exceptions goes to the orphanage and naturally they’ll be some great offers in the shop too!

As you may have seen in our workshop programme we are very pleased to welcome Debra Jarrad who is now working with us in the shop. Having attended classes for many years she “knows the ropes” in the shop very well and is a wonderful asset to our team. We have recently taken delivery of some stunning Hoffmann batiks, beautiful seaside fabrics from Stoff, the new ‘Guess how much I love you” fabrics by Clothworks and High meadow farm by Lynette Anderson. Dare we say it too that Christmas fabrics, already chosen, should reach us in July!

We do hope you enjoy the workshops we have arranged for you but please call to reserve your choice of dates etc. before sending payments, although obviously you can do both over the phone.Thank you for all your support, have a wonderful summer and we look forward to seeing you very soon.

God Bless
